Review - Coros Apex 2
Looking for a reliable GPS watch for trail running and endurance adventures without the bulk or price tag of high-end models?
The Coros Apex 2 might be your perfect match. Sitting comfortably between the Coros Pace 3 and Vertix 2, it offers premium build quality, solid training features, and great battery life – all at a much more approachable price.
A Great All-Rounder for Outdoor Athletes
The Apex 2 combines rugged design with lightweight wearability. With a titanium bezel, sapphire glass screen, and weighing just 42g, it’s ideal for long days on the trail. The compact 1.2” screen keeps it subtle on the wrist – though runners who like lots of data fields at once might find it a little tight for space.
Apex 2 vs Apex 2 Pro – Which Should You Choose?
Both the Apex 2 and Apex 2 Pro offer the same core features:
- Advanced training tools via Coros EvoLab
- Full suite of navigation options
- Built-in ECG sensor for HRV spot checks
- Excellent GPS accuracy
The Pro version adds a few extras: dual-frequency GPS, a larger and brighter screen, more onboard storage, and longer battery life. But in real-world testing, GPS performance and heart rate tracking were almost identical between the two.
At £345, the Coros Apex 2 is £75.00 cheaper than the Apex 2 Pro – and we think it offers better value for most runners.
Training & Navigation Features
Coros is rapidly closing the gap on Garmin with its training insights and performance metrics.
The Apex 2 delivers detailed data on heart rate, pace, stamina, recovery, and more – with an intuitive interface that improves every update.
You also get breadcrumb navigation and route following (though no turn-by-turn or routable maps like high-end Garmin models).
For most trail runners and hikers, it’s more than enough.
Battery Life You Can Trust
The Coros Apex 2 offers:
- 13 days in standard daily use
- Up to 40 hours in full GPS mode
- 25 hours in All Systems GPS
In our testing, this held up impressively – with minimal drain overnight and predictable performance during multi-hour workouts.
Outdoor GPS Shop Verdict
If you want a lightweight, rugged GPS watch with serious tracking and training tools, the Coros Apex 2 is a standout. It’s great value, packed with features, and ideal for those who don’t need the full specs (or size) of a Vertix 2 or Garmin Fenix.
