Description

Outdoor GPS Shop – The experts view

The Garmin Oregon 700 is Garmin’s best-selling touch screen multi-activity GPS Unit.

With clear easy to use profiles, you can quickly swap between your outdoor activities – Hiking, Geocaching, Tour Cycling, Mountain biking etc.

It comes a stunning 3-inch (diagonal) touch screen, which looks stunning in bright sunshine.

It comes with a built-in electronic compass; this gives you far greater accuracy at small movements and it also has an altimeter that works from the air pressure (giving you improved accuracy).

It pairs with your mobile phone, so you get smart notifications and also use your phone data to get live weather and also to benefit from live Geocaching.

If you can afford the addition of some Ordnance Survey maps, it makes for a great GPS for walking in the UK as this will show you the rights of way.

Whether you’re hiking, biking, geocaching, climbing, kayaking, trail riding or whatever, this rugged navigator is ready for anything. It features multilink wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ANT+), Active Weather support with animated radar overlays, a 1-year BirdsEye Satellite Imagery subscription and a built-in 3-axis compass with barometric altimeter.

Find Fun with Geocaching.com

The wireless connectivity to Geocaching.com on your Oregon makes it easier than ever to enjoy a superior geocaching experience. You can set your device to automatically stay up to date with all the latest caches. No more manual entry of coordinates or printing out cache details on paper.

More Connectivity, Less Complexity

The expanded wireless capabilities of Oregon 700 make it easier than ever to update software, check the weather radar2 and upload adventures to our Garmin Connect online community. You can even share LiveTrack location data or geocache discoveries via WiFi or smartphone. Smart Notifications via Bluetooth connectivity with a compatible smartphone let you receive emails, texts and alerts right on your device. So you can see what’s going on while you’re getting away from it all.

Navigate Your Way

The Oregon 700 handheld provides comprehensive navigation and tracking to guide you on and off the beaten path, using GPS and GLONASS plus ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) sensor capabilities. The built-in altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent, while the barometer can be used to predict weather changes by showing short-term trends in air pressure. The 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing, whether you’re moving or not. There’s also a TracBack® feature on Oregon 700 to help you navigate back to your starting point the same way you came. You can also mark locations, such as your campsite, vehicle or other points of interest, to which you’d like return navigation.

Enjoy the View on a Vivid Display

The Oregon 700 handheld features a bright, sunlight-readable 3-inch colour touchscreen display with dual orientation for landscape or portrait views. It easily supports multiple mapping options such as BlueChart® g2 HD for water navigation or City Navigator® for turn-by-turn driving directions. Durable and water-rated to IPX7, the Oregon series is built to keep delivering vital mapping and tracking data, no matter what the elements throw at you. Plus, you can even customise your Oregon’s display with free downloads from the Garmin Connect IQ™ online store3.

Plan Your Next Trip

Take charge of your next adventure with BaseCamp™, software that lets you view and organise maps, waypoints, routes and tracks. This free trip-planning software even allows you to create Garmin Adventures that you can share with friends, family or fellow explorers online. BaseCamp displays on your computer screen any topographic map data stored on the device, including contour lines and elevation profiles. It also can transfer an almost unlimited amount of satellite images to your device using the included BirdsEye Satellite Imagery subscription.

FAQs

  1. What are each of the map options available with this unit?

 –              GPS Unit Only

The map page will be blank on this unit unless you put a map card in the unit, or you download some mapping using a Birdseye Plus voucher.

If you already have an Ordnance Survey map card (micro SD) from another Garmin GPS you could put it in this unit.

–              With Birdseye PLUS Voucher (25,000 sq km of 1:25k maps)

You activate the map credit against your Garmin account and then once you have this map credit in place you have one year to download your 25,000 sq km of 1:25k maps.

25,000 sq km is larger than the size of Wales and the area you choose can be split (i.e. you can choose areas from all over Great Britain).

Don’t worry, if you buy the unit from Outdoor GPS Shop you will get a step by step guide of how to download this mapping.

–              With TOPO Great Britain Pro 1:50k

This is full GB at 1:50k mapping on a map card, which sits in the back of the GPS unit.

The TOPO PRO means that it is the latest map card from Garmin, giving you off road turn by turn routing within the National Parks, this means you can select a location many miles ahead and the GPS will route you via the footpaths to get to that location (like a car sat nav does).

Outside National Parks the GPS will navigate you in a straight line from waypoint to waypoint.

Don’t worry, here at the Outdoor GPS Shop we set the unit up for you so you can easily use these features and we even include a quick start guide so you can quickly get up and running with your GPS unit.

–              With TOPO Great Britain Pro 1:25k

This is full GB at 1:50k, 1:50k and 1:250k mapping on a map card, which sits in the back of the GPS unit. As you zoom in and out you pass through each of these three map sets.

2. Does this unit come with batteries?

No, but it just requires x2 AA batteries. We would recommend some good quality rechargeable batteries, as it will use a set every day.

3. What is the difference between the Oregon 700 and 750?

The Oregon 750 comes with a Garmin rechargeable pack and an 8 mp camera

1 review for Garmin Oregon 700

  1. 5 out of 5

    Neil McFarlane

A bit of a difference from the Oregon 450 I used to have, but great that I can now have a separate profile for work, one for geocaching & one for walking, with different coordinating formats. Locks on to GPS a lot quicker too
